About Kenny McKee Kenny McKee has been dedicated to improving the literacy outcomes throughout his career, supporting students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Kenny is a National Board Certified Teacher who has taught English Language Arts in secondary grades and reading courses for undergraduate students. He currently works as an instructional coach, writer, and educational consultant in Asheville, NC. Kenny has worked in a consulting role with Student Achievement Partners, ISKME, Sibme, North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, school systems, public schools, and private schools. Kenny joined the Paideia Center’s National Faculty in 2018. He is passionate about coaching, and regularly moderates the #educoach Twitter chat. Kenny was a 2014 ASCD Emerging Leader. He was also a member of the NC Governor’s Teacher Network, where he conducted research on vocabulary instruction for English Language Learners. He is a Newsela Teacher Trainer, an SREB certified LDC coach, and a co-founder of Edcamp Asheville. He has a B.S. in English Education from Appalachian State University and an M. A. Ed in Reading from East Carolina University. He has recently taught reading undergraduate classes for East Carolina University! Kenny has strong interests in educator advocacy. He is currently serving on a research team, investigating educator advocacy through US Department of Education’s Teach to Lead Project. He is an ASCD Influence Leader, an active Core Advocate, and co-creator of the #EdAdvBecause chat. He has written for educational blogs for organizations like Education Week, ASCD, Student Achievement Partners, TeachThought, Education NC, and NEA.
